About the Artist
My name is Megan McLachlan, or as my family knows me, Mogs.
Born in London, I grew up in the USA and spent my summers traveling from Scotland to Poland. Throughout the differential swirl of languages and multicultural nuances that inundated my childhood, I find my subject matters ebb and flow, focus and blur in the same manner with multifaceted layers, much like people. I like to center on micro perspectives with a focus on blurring boundaries, sweeping side angles, and using high chromatic techniques. In the studio, I prefer to paint/create from living specimens in my beanies and kicks. Due to the nature of my subjects as well as my formal education, my work frequently exhibits nuances of memento mori.
In 2022 I turned my artistic inspirations into my business, Mogs Art Studio, following a career in life science. I have worked in many mediums, which will be seen on this site in various forms. Besides a painter, I am a MICCA-awarded violinist, a photographer, muralist, an aspirational ceramicist … the list goes on and grows each year. You can also find my pieces careening through parking lots in a flurry of color and zest or floating in a beautifully tweaked out Japan Air … I’m collaborating with HA! Skateboards. Check out the Moonlight skeleton skateboard!
My studio is located in Southern Maine on the coastal waters where I’m able to grow my own garden and paint from life. This site is a collection of my artistic talents, passions, hustle, and attempt at capturing the beauty I discover each day, as well as to serve the death positivity movement. I hope you enjoy the ride with me!
